Friesian
One of the oldest domestic horse
breeds in Europe, the Friesian originates from Friesland in the Netherlands.
Friesians are black horses known for their long manes and tails (they can
reach the ground) and for the long feathers on their legs with a history
reaching back at least as far as the Middle Ages. Friesians are gentle
but often massive in body (Baroque). Today their good nature is what
makes them popular for Dressage, as Carriage Horses, Sport Horses and in
almost every equestrian discipline. They hold their heads quite high
and are very regal in appearance.
This collection was designed as an
equine fantasy tribute to this magical breed of horse. It is a design
of motion with the mane flowing behind the horse instead of the
more common depiction of a standing Friesian with mane hanging down
and forelock over the eyes. I wanted to highlight the lovely,
expressive face of the Friesian. The blackness of the horse is
highlighted in multi-shades of bright neon green, purple and
blue. On the colored shirts, the shirt color bleeds through the
transparent design adding extra color and shading existing hues.
