NOTE: The Deadline for material to be included in Volume I, Issue 1 September 15th 2003.
Collective Knowledge Journal and Resource Guide (CKJ) will be published as a compliment to the Shovelbums list server as well as Collective Knowledge Press. CKJ will fill two much needed niches in Archaeology and CRM today. CKJ will be published six times a year and be distributed to all 8,000+ list members in text only format (like this message) with the introductory paragraphs of articles, and resource links, clearly displayed. These links will direct readers to an HTML and PDF printable version on the web. Each year the issues will be compiled as a printed and bound archive for purchase.
First – CKJ be the final word for finding reference to archaeology and CRM specialists, equipment, and specialized supplies. For years we have all wasted time searching for these things in these specialized fields of our. Maybe it was an address for that HABS photographer, or a vendor for screens, you know what I am talking about. People and supplies are hard to track down in this world. CKJ, like its parent company Shovelbums, seeks to bring unity to this fragmented landscape. By bringing together all of these resources in a regularly published online & printable journal you frantic scrambling will be at an end. Just open up the latest issue of CKJ (which all 8,000+ members of Shovelbums.org will receive for free) and you will find what you need.
Second – CKJ will be a pan-industry resource for disseminating news that is important to you in the worlds of archaeology and CRM. Editorials, profession specific classifieds, interviews with the “Silverbacks” of the profession, and errata (see below) to the largest audience in the world of your peers. With articles from industry leader, and contributed columns, CKJ will span the gap between specialized journals and publications with multi-year lag times for getting articles out.
